Student Organizations

Student organizations and competition teams allow students to learn more about engineering, meet new people and apply their engineering skills. There are several student organizations that are directly related to the chemical engineering department.

American Institute of Chemical Engineers

The K-State student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is the most active chemical engineering group on campus. The student chapter has been recognized as one of the most outstanding chapters in the nation.

Chem-E-Car Team

The K-State Chem-E-Car Student Design Team competes in regional and national competitions with a model car of their own design propelled by a chemical reaction for a specified distance with a specified weight.

Recycled Materials Design Club (REMADE)

REMADE was created as an outlet for students to gain experience with materials science and product design while providing hands-on with environmentalism. The group breaks down plastic waste, processes it into 3D printer filament, then designs and creates household products that people can use.

Biodiesel Initiative

The K-State Biodiesel Initiative works to make the K-State campus more renewable by converting waste cooking oil produced by campus dining facilities into fuel to power trucks used by the Division of Facilities. In an effort to make the project more sustainable, the initiative has begun research to further optimize the process and recycle and recover waste materials from the biodiesel process.

Omega Chi Epsilon

Omega Chi Epsilon is a chemical engineering honor society. Membership is based upon faculty recommendations, grade point average, service to the department and participation in activities.

CHUMS
CHUMS is a program the department developed to increase the involvement of freshmen and sophomores by pairing them with older students who can provide support, offer advice, answer questions, etc. CHUMS activities are open to all chemical engineering students.

Society of Women Engineers
The Society of Women Engineers is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women through an array of training and development programs, networking opportunities, scholarships, outreach and advocacy activities and much more.

K-State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering
The K-State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering (KAWSE) at K-State is a cooperative effort between the colleges of engineering and arts and sciences and is designed to cultivate the science and technology interests of women from middle school through postgraduate levels.
