Impact of Engineering Hall on the Department of Chemical Engineering
The new Engineering Hall was completed in the final weeks of the fall 2015 semester and was put to use at the start of the spring 2016 semester. This latest phase brought a 108,000-square- foot addition to the engineering complex. It includes new offices, research and instructional spaces, and now houses the departments of electrical and computer engineering, and computing and information sciences.
While the chemical engineering department does not get space in the new addition, it will gain more office and classroom areas as other departments move. Industrial and manufacturing systems engineering will be relocating into Rathbone Hall soon, leaving space on the second floor of Durland Hall for chemical engineering. Part of this space will become graduate students offices; they are currently housed in Seaton Hall. It will also increase the number of computer laboratories and classrooms for chemical engineering. In the long term, the department also hopes to increase its research space, with the help of donors, by converting several offices on the second floor into laboratories.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Engineering Hall will be held on April 1, 2016. The public is welcome to attend this event. Please visit http://www.engg.ksu.edu/engineering-hall/ for details.
