New Faculty and Staff
Shelley Clabaugh - office specalist
Shelley Clabaugh joined the chemical engineering department as an office specialist in October 2023. Prior to joining CHE, Clabaugh worked at Dillons for 10 years. She has experience in accounting, customer service and management. Her husband, Jake, works at Bev Hub. They have lived in Kansas for 11 years and they have two grandchildren, Maddison and Gavin.
Haosong Chen - advanced instructor
Haosong Chen is an advanced instructor in the Tim Taylor Department of Chemical Engineering and Mike Wiegers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Kansas State University, beginning in 2024. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in December 2021, followed by a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in May 2024.
Before joining K-State, Chen was a research technologist in Peter Searson’s lab at Johns Hopkins University. She investigated the mechanisms and kinetics of cellular uptake and transfection efficiency of mRNA/pDNA-loaded lipid nanoparticles across brain endothelial cells with human stem cells. Her work facilitates the drug delivery research for resolving neurodegenerative diseases.
At K-State, Chen teaches several courses in chemical engineering, including Computational Techniques in Chemical Engineering and Basic Concepts in Materials Science and Engineering. Chen’s teaching philosophy is to foster an engaging, hands-on learning environment where students are encouraged to think critically and to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. She emphasizes the importance of collaboration, problem-solving and lifelong learning, aiming to prepare her students to thrive both academically and professionally. She is also involved in tissue engineering research in collaboration with Ninghao Zhu’s lab.
